How does ScreenBeam support screen mirroring for Apple devices?

This article applies to ScreenBeam 1xxx-series and 960 products.

ScreenBeam natively supports AirPlay screen mirroring on macOS and iOS devices. This allows users with MacBooks, iPads, or iPhones to wirelessly share their screens to a ScreenBeam-enabled display using the integrated screen mirroring feature. On macOS, users can also choose to extend their desktop, enabling them to keep information private on their main screen while presenting selected content on the shared display.

How to connect for MacOS (Sonoma & newer)

  • Make sure the device's Wi-Fi is on and connected to a Wi-Fi network reachable to ScreenBeam.
  • Click the Control Center icon in the menu bar (top-right).
  • Select Screen Mirroring.
  • Choose the ScreenBeam receiver name from the list matching the name on the display.
  • Enter the PIN shown on the display if prompted.
  • Click here for MacOS device connection video and best practices.

How to connect for iOS

  • Make sure the device's Wi-Fi is on and connected to a Wi-Fi network reachable to ScreenBeam.
  • Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center.
  • Select Screen Mirroring.
  • Choose the ScreenBeam receiver name from the list matching the name on the display.

How does it work?

When AirPlay screen mirroring is enabled and connected to the network, ScreenBeam receiver announces its availability across the network or via Bluetooth1. Apple devices can detect ScreenBeam and other AirPlay receivers directly from the Control Center. Selecting a ScreenBeam receiver may prompt the user to enter a PIN code, ensuring the correct display is chosen for screen sharing.

AirPlay screen mirroring traffic is routed through the network, so the ScreenBeam receiver must be connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and user devices should be on the same network or on VLANs configured for AirPlay mirroring.

For added convenience, ScreenBeam 1xxx-series receivers include a Local Wi-Fi (Hotspot) mode. This feature allows guests or visitors whose devices are unable to access the main network to connect directly to the ScreenBeam receiver for seamless screen mirroring.

What video and audio quality can you expect, and is protected content supported?

AirPlay screen mirroring on ScreenBeam supports a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30 frames per second, even though select ScreenBeam receivers support up to 4Kp30 for other protocols. Actual audio and video performance may vary depending on Wi-Fi and network conditions. Please note that playback of protected content, such as movies from the iTunes store, YouTube TV, or Netflix on iOS and macOS, is not supported with ScreenBeam.
