Windows Miracast cannot find ScreenBeam receiver
This article is applicable to ScreenBeam 1xxx-Series and 960 products.
Overview
Windows Miracast uses Wi-Fi Direct (P2P) to discover and connect to receivers. During discovery, Windows scans 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels; receivers within range appear in the Connect panel. After selection, a secure pairing (with on-screen PIN if enforced) occurs, and audio/video is streamed.
ScreenBeam Miracast operates in Autonomous Group Owner (AGO) mode, allowing the receiver’s Wi-Fi Direct channel to be fixed away from production WLAN channels. Clients whose Wi-Fi adapters/drivers do not support Different Channel Mode (DCM) or 5 GHz may fail to discover the receiver. The default channel is 36.
Common root causes
-
Wi-Fi disabled or Airplane mode enabled on the Windows device.
-
Client Wi-Fi adapter/driver lacks 5 GHz capability or DCM support.
- Miracast discovery uses over-the-air Wi-Fi Direct. Place receivers within practical proximity of user devices (same room) to ensure reliable discovery.
- RF interference or excessive AP density on/near the receiver’s P2P channel.
- Driver defects/outdated drivers.
Fast checks (do these first)
-
Wi-Fi is ON; Airplane mode is OFF.
-
Stand close to the receiver (same room). Miracast discovery is over-the-air Wi-Fi Direct.
-
The TV/projector shows the ScreenBeam home screen (receiver is ready).
Verify the PC supports Miracast & 5 GHz
-
Miracast status:
Press Win + R →dxdiag
→ Enter → Save All Information… → open the file → Miracast = Available (or Available, with HDCP). -
5 GHz radio present:
Open Command Prompt, run:netsh wlan show driversIn Radio types supported, you should see 802.11a / ac / ax (indicates 5 GHz capability).
Update Wi-Fi drivers
-
Device Manager → Network adapters → right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Update driver.
-
If no update is found, download the latest Windows 10/11 driver from your PC/adapter manufacturer and reboot.
Nudge the adapter for Miracast
-
Prefer 5 GHz (if available):
Device Manager → your Wi-Fi adapter → Properties → Advanced → set Preferred Band = 5 GHz. -
Quick test for older radios:
Temporarily disconnect from your regular Wi-Fi, then press Win + K again. (Helps if the adapter can’t do Different Channel Mode.)
Reduce interference
-
Move the PC and receiver closer; avoid metal enclosures behind displays.
-
Keep distance from dense AP clusters and other 5 GHz emitters.
-
If you manage Wi-Fi, avoid putting nearby APs on the same channel as the receiver’s P2P channel.
Try again, or reset as a last resort
-
Press Win + K, select the receiver, enter the PIN if shown.
-
Last resort: Settings → Network & Internet → Status → Network reset (you’ll rejoin Wi-Fi afterward).
Recommended Wi-Fi adapters (for reliable Miracast)
-
Preferred (Wi-Fi 6/6E): Intel® AX-series — e.g., AX200 / AX201 / AX210 / AX211 or newer.
-
Minimum (Wi-Fi 5): Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC — e.g., 8265 / 9260 (must support 5 GHz + Miracast).
-
Use the OEM Intel driver for Windows 10/11 whenever possible.
