Wireless channel planning for Wi-Fi Miracast Peer-to-Peer (P2P)

This article applies to the following ScreenBeam products:
1xxx-Series, 960, and 750

ScreenBeam Miracast operates in Autonomous Group Owner (AGO) mode by default. This approach allows organizations to specify a wireless channel(s) for the Wi-Fi Direct peer-to-peer connection.

Wireless Channel Planning

ScreenBeam receivers support the 5GHz (UNII-1 and UNII-3 in North America, only UNII-1 is supported in Europe, reach out to support@screenbeam.com for other geographically specific wireless band support) bands for their Miracast P2P connection. The ScreenBeam 960 and 750 also support the 2.4GHz band for the Miracast P2P connection, however, the 2.4GHz spectrum is often congested and likely to experience interference. We recommend reserving at least (3) a Non-DFS 5GHz wireless channel for the Miracast P2P connection in high-density deployments.

The number of channel(s) to reserve may depend on the separation between rooms where ScreenBeam receivers are deployed. You may need to consult with the wireless network admin for this procedure.

  • On the Wireless Access Point (APs) Controller or Management Server

    • Disable the Wi-Fi channel(s) selected for P2P connection from broadcasting.

    • Enable UNII-2 or UNII-2 Extended DFS channels for Wi-Fi client devices if necessary.

  • For receivers deployed in adjacent rooms, we recommend a staggering 2 to 3 different channels in adjacent rooms to avoid congestion. This is necessary if HD video streaming is often used in multiple rooms.
